run a Ethernet cord from your router right to the back of your xbox. Why pay 100 bucks for the adaptor when you can get cheap Ethernet everywhere. I use that on mine and it works great.

You can run an Ethernet cord directly from your router to your Xbox.. However a cable longer than 20 feet will diminish the signal strength and you may get dropped from games. The easiest solution is to bite the bullet and buy the wireless adapter. You can get them for about 60 bucks used.
I'm not sure that's possible. I go to college where everything is wireless and the only solution to obtaining a wireless connection was to purchase that adapter. No you cannot use the old xbox controller with the new xbox, even with the hard drive.



You can however play orignal xbox games on the 360 if you have the hard drive. Keep in mind that not all games are backwards compatible yet but most are and future updates will add more games to the list. If you have a xbox game you really want to play but its not backwards compatible, just keep it in a safe place and one day they'll make it playable.

The only thing that installing a game onto your hard drive does is make it load faster. but Halo 3 actually gets worse performance installed on the hard drive since it was optimized to run off the DVD and not the hard drive. But some games do see quite a significant boost if you install them. it does not affect xbox live.

Arcade has barely any memory space. You have to basically buy everything except a controller and a headset. But you get a lot of Arcade games. Arcade sux to me.

Unless someone is sharing your internet connection, its probably the connection's fault and you have to either upgrade or stay as you are. If multiple people are using the same internet connection, this will slow it down, as well as depending during the time of day, Xbox Live will get noticeably slower due to to many people online. If you are running your connection through your computer, that will also slow it down, connect the Xbox directly to the router for the fastest connection possible.Does anyone no how i can enhance my xbox 360 internet connection?

1: This use to happen to my Xbox. Something is wrong with your disc drive. What I did to fix it was to TURN OFF my Xbox, shake it up for a bit, and it eventually work. The Xbox fought with me for like a week but eventually the disc try error went away completely. I haven't had a problem with it for a long long time. If this doesn't work, you need your Xbox fixed.



2: Unless you live in a completely dust free environment you can't really get dust from getting into your Xbox. The best advice I can give you for that is just put your Xbox on a clean hard surface and dust your room every once and a while. You could get your Xbox cleaned in a gaming store, but they might have to open it which would void the warranty if you have one. Just get an aerosol can and clean it yourself.

the arcade does NOT have a hard drive (the normal xbox360 comes with 20GB / 60GB and the Elite comes with 120GB harddrive) it only comes with a small 256MB memory card.

there is not a harddrive on the arcade so it cant play regular xbox games, you cant go online on xbox live ( the amazing online experience) and theres a chrome finish on the cd tray. with all my calculations the pro is definatly the best deal.

It can play xbox 360 games for one. It does have backwards compatibility with some regular xbox games, something like 300 or 400, but not all of them, YET. Also has better graphics, an HD DVD Player if you opt to buy it. Different controllers, that have different button layouts, and are wireless. There are wireless for xbox too, but not made by microsoft, made by generic names. Also has a detachable hard drive. USB ports in front and back. There are a few differences with Xbox Live, as well as a dashboard. A very nice dashboard, you can personalize with your own image and such. Quite a few different things. And it just looks better!

It would depend on what your individual gaming needs are. I have both a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 Elite and I'd personally say, that the PlayStation 3 is better overall. I advised against doing this. The 360 needs as much room as possible to prevent it from overheating. Stacking other consoles on top of it will block the top vents which may lead to the red rings of death.

It could be the cord itself, that's somewhat unlikely, but if you are plugged directly in, that is the only issue I see. Or your internet is messed up, if it also kicks you off the internet from your computer, then its not an Xbox Live problem.

Ok, Kyle, you are incorrect. The pro and arcade have the EXACT internal makeup. SO does the old elite, but hyou are looking into a pro/arcade. In 2009 they changed the makeup of both the pro and arcade, but no matter what they are the exact same, but one has a chrome disk shooter, and one does not. The only advantage to getting a pro is that it comes with a hard drive. But ya know that they discontinued the pro in the US because of the slim. To tell you the truth, if you have enough money you should save for the slim, becuase I have worked on multiple xboxs before and even have seen the slims insides. WAY better. Better processor, MUCH bigger hard drive, whisper quite, and is ultimately compatable with KINECT. Hope this helped!

You would have to use different firmware in order to turn that router into a client adapter.. I don't suggest wireless. I strongly recommend powerline. I have finally started using it myself. G mimo vs. 200 Mbps powerline. Powerline has gave me lag free You Tube video watching. All you really need though is 85 Mbps.

Well, you first need to know if the wifi reaches the console. If not, you need to move closer to the router.



Assuming you are within range of the wifi, follow these solutions:



Older Xboxes

Requires: Wifi Adapter ($100)

1) Attatch the USB adapter to the back of the xbox

2) On the dashboard of the xbox, go to system settings (far right option)

3) Select Network

4) Select Wireless settings

5) Scan for routers, and find yours

6) Enter the password (if your router has one)

7) Test Connection

8) YAY!



Newer Xboxes

Requires: Nothing (Wifi adapter built in)

1) Turn it on

2) On the dashboard of the xbox, go to system settings (far right option)

3) Select Network

4) Select Wireless settings

5) Scan for routers, and find yours

I have a BT Home Hub 2.0 and on the router settings it only gives you the choice to have one xbox use the xbox live port. Is there anyway to get around this? Maybe giving one xbox a static ip address?

Not sure what you mean? Is it your xbox profile your trying to get access to on your laptop? you can do that through xbox.com, normal connection is ethernet from modem to wireless router then ethernet from router that connects to xbox.. but if you want wireless you need an adapter.

Ok so yesterday I got an RCA resever and speakers off the aide of the road and it all works fine...the thing is I'm trying to hook up my elite up to it and it's only putting sound out of the sub and the to front speakers...but if I put a DVD in the receivers built in player all the speakers work...I have it set up like this...tv-hdmi-xbox...xbox-hdmi adapter it came with-red and white sound cables-resever....any ideas?How to set up my xbox elite to 5.1 surround sound?
I'm not sure how a 5.1 system works since I usually use TV speakers or my old 2.1, but if you go to your Xbox Settings then Console Settings, and go to Audio, set it to Dolby 5.1. Maybe you're even already set to it. Good luck!

I used an old xbox live card when i first got my 360 (back in 2007) and had no problems. Bottom line, if your friend is giving the card to you for free...go for it. lol

Yes, you are right. If you connect to xbox live with a modded console you'll surely get a ban. Bans range from having your account reset (your gamerscore and achievements will become removed/ back to 0), you will not be able to save to your hard drive, or your console itself will be unuseable. There are people that use "stealth","spoof", and other tricks to evade bans but Microsoft has found ways to detect them and give them bans.
It depends. with flashed Xboxes you primarily use them to play games for free, but you wont really get banned unless you're an idiot and didnt stealth patch the games properly. the xbox also has a kind of way of recording past actions, so if you do something offline, it doesn't mean microsoft cant find out. but with flashes if you know what youre doing, or kknow someone who does, then you can unban it easily.

If you want a J-tag, then you can easily get banned just for going online, especially with publishers like treyarch and infinity ward so dedicated to helping microsoft cut down on modded lobbies.

EDIT: btw what graspclaw said about gamerscore resetting tends to relate to modding you're profile, not xbox, and if you mod your profile with a transfer cable in such an obvious way (like modding to 627,900, bouceman ;)) you will get reset and permabannedWhat happens if a modded xbox gets banned?
yes, Microsoft has found ways to track down people that flash their Xbox but there are sooooooo many people that if your smart and dont throw up any big red flags you can easily get away with it. if you want to learn how to do all the flashing stuff you can add me and chat me up). But once your banned no more online play for you. you will probably end up having to get another Xbox or have someone hack it back off for the same price (btw i fix rrod xboxes and improve them then sell them for pretty cheap)
