That stopped working so now i am wondering if i bought a wireless router and hoked it up directly to my Xbox would Xbox live work?Can i plug a wireless router into my Xbox to get Xbox Live directly from an unsecured wireless network?
You need a modem to go to the wireless router. A router doesn't reacieve wi-fi, it sends it. You need the wifi adapter, which you should already have.

yes if you connect it to a modem and connect that modem to an isp.
