How do I update my xbox without xbox live?

My xbox isnt working, because its says I need to insert an update disc. I dont have xbox live, and want to fix the problem with a disc. Is there any shops where I can get the disc, and are they pricey? How do I update my xbox without xbox live?
The problem you are encountering is caused by a failed update.

What happened is that your xbox was updating from one of the games you had put into the console but got shut off before the update was complete. There are two ways of trying to clear the failed update, neither are guaranteed to work and one you have to call microsoft for the console specific code.

Clear Any Failed system updates that cause the console to error.

With the console off, press and hold the sync up button (the small white one)

While holding the sync button press the power button to turn on the console

Continue to hold the sync button until the Console has booted up completely.

During the boot process the console should clear any failed updates, allowing you to use it normally.

Another way to try and fix it is putting in your most recent played games and starting the xbox up and seeing it will work.

If this is a bought xbox from someone else, you're going to need to find out what games they last played.
If its asking for a update disc I would call Microsoft or go to their help website to find out the answer for that. But yes you can also get a silver membership or even a month membership also. Most retailers sell membership cards, I have seen some for one and three months. How do I update my xbox without xbox live?
You can't update without xbox live. But you don't need a gold xbox live subscription to be able to update. It will work with the free silver subscription if you have a profile which has xbox live.
Hmmm. you could try logging in on the website? If that doesn't work then I'm clueless. How do I update my xbox without xbox live?
