Going Xbox Live for the first time?

I am going live this year. This will be my first time ever logging my game system, or even playing via servers, to play any video games. Can you offer me some helpful advice, tips and tricks, what to look for and what to avoid, how to get into good games without idiots, and/or any other helpful information about going Live with my xbox via Xbox Live?Going Xbox Live for the first time?
The biggest idiots are in the Underground so stick with Family or Recreation if you want to avoid them. That doesn't mean you won't come across people from other zones you're just less likely to. People play with their friends who are in different zones and you'll be matched with people with your skill level. Just be nice even when others are acting like jerks. Don't quit early because you're losing, don't cheat, communicate with your teammates, and offer a 'good game' afterwards even if you lose. If you enjoyed playing with someone, give them good feedback and send them a friend request if you want. Most people use the party chat system nowadays so there aren't many talkers in multiplayer anymore.Going Xbox Live for the first time?
