Can I attach an ethernet cable from my computer to my xbox even if the computer is running of wifi?

So I want to hook my xbox up to xbox live but the router won't push the wifi that far. What I'm planning is to get an ethernet cable and hook it up to my computer that the wifi will reach to, and connect it to my xbox. Would this work? Can I attach an ethernet cable from my computer to my xbox even if the computer is running of wifi?
Potentially, yes. Use Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing service. You didn't say which edition of Microsoft you were running so I cannot be more specific for you.

However this may create a double-NAT, and possibly a require a change of subnet on your router so as to not conflict with the ICS subnet (I think it defaults to 192.168.0.0 from memory).

An alternative would be to purchase a wireless range extender. Belkin used to make these (Belkin WURE devies) for about 拢20.00 UK
