Will a Xbox hard drive transfer kit replace memory already saved on my slim with the old memory?

I just got around to transferring my old memory from my old Xbox to my Xbox Slim. I have been playing the slim for a couple months. to be sure, get a usb and transfer all your data onto the usb, it it gets erased, you can transfer it back onto the xbox via the usb
